The hip-hop trio’s LP will be released by Justin Vernon and Aaron and Bryce Dessner’s 37d03d.
37d03d—the label cofounded by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and The National’s Aaron and Bryce Dessner—is only a few years old, but it’s already amassed a small discography of fascinating releases ranging from a Michael Stipe collaboration with Vernon and Aaron Dessner to Spank Rock’s bold debut under the neo-soul moniker Naeem.
Today the collective is unveiling their latest project, the debut from a fellow group of artists whose name looks like the result of your cat walking across your keyboard: 81355 (pronounced “Bless”).
The rap trio’s debut record The Time I’ll Be of Use drops May 31, and the first single introduces the project with a haunting lullaby lined with a bass-heavy beat and enchanting verses from all three members, Sirius Blvck, Oreo Jones, and David Adamson.
Further unsettling is the track’s visual which taps imagery from the universe of horror film, from the chilling leafless woods of Blair Witch to the surreal scene of a lone door set ablaze, to—most notably—the threesome being buried alive as they recite the song’s lyrics. (“We actually dug our own grave and had people bury us alive,” they confirm.)
