The Dreamville rapper tweeted, “Just know this was years in the making.”

J. Cole has finally announced a release date for his long-awaited project The Off-Season. The Dreamville took to Twitter to announce the album is finally dropping on May 14.

Cole’s announcement lines up with recent claims from other Dreamville rappers. Just last week, Bas claimed Cole was dropping the album in two weeks. Earlier this year, EARTHGANG claimed they would drop a project the same day as Cole, but didn’t reveal when.

In late 2020, Cole teased a project via his kiLL edward alter ego. However, at that time, fans were still under the impression he would release an album titled The Fall Off, and it would drop before 2020 was over. The title The Off-Season was thought to be a mixtape or an EP, but that is clearly no longer the case.

Last July, Cole dropped “The Climb Back” and “Lion King On Ice” as the first two singles from The Fall Off. It’s unclear if either song will make the tracklist for The Off-Season.

The Off-Season is set to be Cole’s first album since 2018’s KOD. Although he has released a handful of singles the past few years, he has been busy doing guest features and putting together the Dreamville compilation album Revenge of the Dreamers III.
