Malachi-Phree Jasiah Pate (b. October 19, 1996), better known by his stage name Jasiah, is a 24-year old, up-and-coming artist with incredible vocal talent, hailing from Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Stivers School for the Arts and attended Marietta College, where he learned about music theory and the art of performing.
He is also a songwriter and producer that has worked with the likes of Ronny J and DJ Carnage. His music is divisible into two separate discographies: JASIAH and PHREE.
JASIAH (pronounced /djah-sai-ah/), formerly stylized as JA$IAH, is his new and aggressive self, where he portrays often violent and aggressive emotion through screaming and high energy vocals. A component of this persona is his tendency to sample cartoons and television shows from his childhood, such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Regular Show and Courage the Cowardly Dog.
Under the JASIAH moniker, he draws inspiration from artists Sybyr and the late XXXTENTACION. This influence is clear in songs like “R.I.P. X”, showcasing his appreciation for the late artist’s work; along with his interpolation of Sybyr in “MURK’D”.
The majority of the influence for his aggressive vocal delivery originates from Sybyr and Floridian rapper Denzel Curry, with JASIAH disclosing:
Denzel [made me start yelling], Sybyr got me more aggressive
PHREE, formerly PhreeTheRapper, is JASIAH’s oldest alias to date, under which he uploaded his first track in November, 2014, titled “WordPlay”. Under this identity, he boasts his vocal talent by singing in addition to rapping; over beats incorporating qualities of genres such as disco, reggaeton, and EDM, while often making use of auto-tune. PHREE also tends to be more uplifting and cheerful, showcasing his versatility as an artist.
Another persona of his that is virtually unknown is PhreeTheKid, this was his moniker for when he’d be credited as a producer. The alias was short-lived, spanning from 2016 until early 2017.
