Kelsea Ballerini and Nashville-based pop group LANY have officially released their “I Quit Drinking” collab, dropping the emotional duet just a day after unveiling it at the 2021 CMT MUsic Awards.

With a blend of country heartbreak and sweeping pop sonics, the mid-tempo is all about the hangover of a failed relationship, with Ballerini and LANY front man Paul Klein mixing a top-shelf vocal cocktail. The track was written by Ballerini and Klein with Nicolle Galyon, and according to the country star, it gives her a special kind of buzz.

“I’ve been a fan of LANY for a long time!” Ballerini said. “So, it was really amazing to work together on ‘I Quit Drinking.’ We’ve all got Tennessee in common, and we found this sweet spot between rock, pop, and country for the song. It’s a little different for the both of us, and I can’t wait to play it live again!”

Ballerini also spoke about the new track in an interview on Apple Music Country’s Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen, sharing candid thoughts on a song she and Klein teamed up to perform on Wednesday’s (June 9) CMT Awards — thrilling the crowd with a well-received live rendition. Ballerini co-hosted the event with Kane Brown and went on win the award for “Performance of The Year” for her 2020 CMT Music Awards appearance with Halsey on “The Other Girl”.

LANY are a Nashville-based alt-pop trio comprised of Paul Klein, Les Priest, and Jake Goss. Their new album Mama’s Boy (Deluxe) is out now. Kelsea Ballerini recently released the video for “half of my hometown,” a duet with fellow Knoxville native Kenny Chesney that appears on her 2020 kelsea album. She recently announce plans to tour this summer with The Jonas Brothers on The Remember This Tour.
