“When This Was All New” cover art
Russ never misses a beat and this week is no exeption. Every Friday is greeted with a new release from the multi-talented artist and this week it’s “When This Was All New.” On the song, Russ hops on a beat he concocted himself and narrates the honest truths about a relationship:
Me and my girl are in a fight again (fight again) both of us went and crossed the line again (Line again)/ I don’t even know when we gon’ try again (Try again) if we got a therapist, we lie to them/ Try to make ourselves seem better, I’m under extreme pressure, I know she is too, this ain’t a joke, Heath Ledger/
Russ and Kehlani consider second chances in new “Take You Back” video
If I cop her a Benz, in this AMG/ Will she stay with me if it’s got cream leather?/ Here I go, tryna do the most, emotional damage, the bandaid’s a boat or a Ghost/ Yeah, I know that our problems are deeper than that but you fucked up too though, I ease to the back
This year so far, Russ has released a surplus of songs across multiple genres, including “Italy,” “Fate,” “Misunderstood,” “Bankrupt,” “Small Talk,” “Status,” “3:15 (Can’t Breathe),” “Private” with Rexx Life Raj, “Money On Me,” “Lucky,” “Rather Be Myself,” “Satisfy,” “On The Way,” “Nothin’ I Won’t Do,” and “Cheers.” Outside of his own drops, Russ has also contributed to tracks like Jackboy’s “Own My Masters” and Blxst’s “Fck Boys.”
Back in 2020, Russ released his third studio LP SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE, his last under the Columbia Records imprint. Including its deluxe upgrade, SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE saw 21 tracks with features from Rick Ross, Bugus, Ty Dolla $ign, WESTSIDE BOOGIE, Kiana Ledé, Benny The Butcher, Devin The Dude, and Bia. The project was a top five success, peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 with 63,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week. Later that year, Russ then liberated the five-track EP CHOMP — his first official project since his return to independence. That short project saw top quality collaborations with guest verses from Ab-Soul, DJ Premier, Black Thought, Busta Rhymes, and much more.
